The master sculpture took Mark Klaus four months to sculpt. The mold of the master is created. Then, each manger set is hand casted from this original mold.
Holy Night Lithopane Manger
Gathered in joy. This serene beautiful manger scene has 12 exquisitely detailed figures fully sculpted. The lithopane of the Holy family illuminates those gathered in joy. The charm of the lithopane goes back to the early 19th century when European craftsmen, engaging in artistry of the highest order, carved panels of fine porcelain to various thickness. The thinner the area, the more light passes through. With precise control of this craft a soft image is formed that is visible when the panel is lit from behind. In this manger scene the glow of the light, through the lithopane, casts a wonderful glow upon the faces of the three kings and shepherds that are gazing in at the newborn baby Jesus. Mark has also included something not seen in other traditional Nativities. A shepherd’s entire family is at the nativity. His wife and child are kneeling next to the standing shepherd. Mark adds “Women are not usually shown at the foot of Jesus, and I felt it was time that they were.”
This beautifully peaceful scene has 3 lithopanes filling the front and sides of the stable.
